Phyllis J. Skaggs

Phyllis J. Skaggs, Age 79, of Helena, Ohio died at her residence, Wednesday afternoon, August 28, 2013. She was born May 20, 1934, in Woodville, Ohio, to Darel and Stella Hutton. Phyllis was a housewife, a great wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid bowler and had bowled in leagues in Clay Center and Woodville. Phyllis was a former member of the Shrine of Toledo. Years ago she had worked at the former Felbinger's and Whitehouse in Genoa.


She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years whom she married in Quincy, Ky. January 5, 1959 Ora Skaggs. Children, Oralane (Robert) Hays of Genoa, Charles (Nancy) Skaggs of Lorain, Jacky (June) Skaggs of Woodville, Violet (Tom) Redrup of Indian River, MI, Judith Dusseau of Genoa, Ronald (Lisa) Skaggs of Bradner and Donald (Dawn) Skaggs of Gibsonburg; 38 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Edward and Tommy Skaggs and siblings, Mick and Jim Hutton and Doris Bickers.


Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 3, 2013 at the Mawk cemetery on Tar Fork in Lewis County, Ky.

Gaydos Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Randy Dale Bevins

Randy Dale Bevins, Age 53, of Vanceburg, Ky. Passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening August 20, 2013 at his sisters' home in Cleveland, Tenn. Randy was a mechanic and enjoyed working on trucks and cars.

Randy was born February 26, 1960 in Vanceburg, Ky. To the late Clyde Wilbur and Leona Ruth Cooper Bevins.

Surviving are 4-sisters- Karen Bevins and Kathy Branam both of Cleveland, Tenn., Melissa Bloomfield of Vanceburg, Ky. And Kelly Faulkner of Worthville, Ky.

His companion- Katherine Adkins of Vanceburg, Ky.

Step-mother- Diane Bevins- Vanceburg, Ky.

Step-sisters- Shirley Bevins and Celeste Smith both of Vanceburg, Ky.

Nieces- Misty Bloomfield, Stephanie Webb, Melinda Williamson all of Vanceburg, Ky. And Heather Roe of Garrison, Ky.

Nephews- James Roe of Vanceburg, Ky., Joshua Faulkner of Harrison, Ohio and Austin Roe and Chris Powers of Cleveland Tennessee.

A memorial service will be held Saturday August 31, 2013 at NOON at the Gaydos Funeral Home.

William Clifford Dyer

Mr. William Clifford Dyer, Age 76, of Vanceburg, Ky. Passed away Monday August 19, 2013 at 10:35 PM at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Portsmouth, Ohio after an extended illness.

Mr. Dyer was born in Lewis County, Kentucky April 1, 1937 to the late Roscoe and Minnie Armstrong Dyer. He was a Union Ironworker and a farmer. Clifford was an avid coonhunter and was a member of the Evans Chapel Church. He loved his grandchildren immensley.

Surviving is his wife of 49 years whom he married August 26, 1963 Carol Cheesman Dyer of Vanceburg.

Two sons- Rusty (Melissa) Dyer of Vanceburg, and William 'Duffy' and his wife Lisa Dyer of Ashland, Ky.

1-daughter- Juanita (Phillip) Hall of Garrison, Ky.

Two brothers- Orville and Jimmy Dyer both of Vanceburg.

Two sisters- Bonnie (Bob) Gilaspy of Greensburg, Indiana and Barb Butler of Knightstown, Indiana.

Six grandchildren-Jasmine (T.J.) Morgan, Megan Dyer, Crit Hall, Olivia Dyer, Drey Hall, and Hailey Dyer, and one great-grandson Carter Morgan who mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be Friday August 23rd at 1:00PM at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Hannibal Cemetery Vanceburg, Ky.

Friends may call from 5-9 pm Thursday and from 8:00am until time of services Friday at the Gaydos Funeral Home .

Charles Robert Vance

Mr. Charles Robert Vance, Age 89, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Sunday morning July 14, 2013 at 4:30am with his family by his side at the Hospice of Hope Care center @ Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Ky. After an extended illness.


Mr. Vance was born in Concord, Ky. June 12, 1924 to the late Robert Jackson and Ethel Phylis Spriggs Vance. Mr. Vance worked for the C&O and CSX Railroad for 33 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army which he so proudly served during World War II in European Theatre Artillary Division with campaigns at Normandy, Ardennes, and the Rhineland.

Member of the East Fork Church.

Surviving is his Wife of 65 years Betty Truesdell Vance of Vanceburg, Ky.

2 Daughters- Belinda (David) Freeman of Cecil, Wisconsin, Pamela (Rick) Polley of Tollesboro, Ky.

3-Sons- Randall (Kennetha) Vance of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Robert (Marty) Vance and his wife Vickie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Chris Vance of Vanceburg, Ky.

13-Grandchildren, Shannon Freeman, Sonya (Shannon) Manley, Leighanne (Mike) Wilson, Jennifer (Eric) Slagle, Kevin Polley, Kelly (Jay) Weitekamp, Kristen (Jason) Story, Joshua (Jessica) Vance, Edwina (Adrian) Ginn, Brian (Michelle) Vance, Zachary (Bethany) Vance, Madison (Cora) Vance and Olivia Vance. 16-great-grandchildren. 5-step-great-grandchildren.

1-Sister- Dolores Childrey of Vanceburg, Ky.

2-Sisters-in-law- Ellen (Jack) Burroughs of Worthington, Ky., Sharon (Jack) Cooper of Elkhart, Indiana. Several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews also survive who will mourn his passing.

2-Brothers- in-law Preston Lacy – Bellebrook, Ohio, and Ernie & Rose H. Truesdell Jr.

Preceeded in death beside his parents was a sister-in-law- Lois Lacy.

Special cousin and friend Lula Belle Corns Church brothers and sisters- Special helper, Jack McCall

Military rites will be accorded by the Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 at East Fork Cemetery


Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00am July 17, 2013 at the East Fork Christian Church with Pastor Bruce Heller officiating. Burial will follow in the East Fork Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:00am until time of services Wednesday at the East Fork Christian Church.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to be given to the Hospice of Hope Maysville, Ky. or to the Gideons International.

Pallbearers will be Eric Slagle, Christopher Slagle, David Childrey, Adrian Ginn, Madison Vance, Jason Story, Kevin Polley, and Bill Childrey Jr.

Charles D. Bond Jr.

Mr. Charles Dewey (Jimmy) Bond Jr., Age 89, of Danville, Ky. formerly of Vanceburg, Ky. passed away Friday August 9, 2013 at 2:05 am at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville, Ky. after an extended illness.

Mr. Bond was born in Hitchens, Ky. May 26, 1924 to the late Charles Dewey Bond Sr. and Armentha Wilburn Bond. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers- Thomas, Shirrell, and Billy Bond.

Mr. Bond served the Lord as a minister in the Dearlodge, Tenn. community, and was in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff in Morgan County, Tenn.


Surviving is his wife Mona Smith Bond of Danville, Ky.

Daughters- Jeanette (David) Jones of Lexington, Ky. And Betty Hughes of Vanceburg, Ky.

One sister- Colleen (Lovell) Collins of Culloden, West Virginia.

Several grandchildren and numerous great and great great-grandchildren will Mourn his passing.


Graveside services will be held Thursday August 15, 2013 @ 1:00PM at Rose Hill Burial Park Ashland, Ky. With Pastor Wes Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Burial Park Ashland, Ky.

Elinor Rogers

Elinor Rogers, Age 76 of Vanceburg, Ky. formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Wednesday July 10, 2013 at 10:08 pm at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Ashland, Ky.

Elinor was born in Cincinnati, Ohio March 11, 1937 to the late Frank B. & Frances Dangelmeier Koehne. Elinor was a mother, artist, and a wonderful lady. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an associates degree in liberal arts.

Elinor helped many in the Vanceburg community serving as a former Licking Valley Cap driver. She was also a foster-parent to many who were in need.

Elinor is survived by Daughters- Diane and Johnnae and Sons John and J-Thomas and her 6-Granddaughters- Xianna, Maddison, Jayni, Jana, Mya, and Anna. She also leaves behind her Sons-in-law, John Schnieders, and Darren Hudson and Daughters-in-law- Maura Rogers and Carla Braun.

Nieces and Nephews – Angela, Danny, & Kathy, and dear friend- Lois, along with other family members and friends who will mourn her passing.

Preceeded her in death beside her parents was her husband John Theodore Rogers Sr. Dec. 9, 2009 and her two close friends Ida Martin and Emily Hutchinson.


At the family's request, in respect for their mother there will be no visitation or funeral. A Mass in remembrance will be held On Sunday July 28, 2013 at 8:45am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vanceburg, Ky. With Reverend Dave Glockner as the officiant.
